Somewhere in Southwest Colorado is a population of deer that is the clear successful progeny of one large buck.  He wears the ear tag of "9."  Each season, a new population of fawns is born and each previous successor becomes just a little bigger- as does this buck.  One day, he may take "9"'s place as the ruler of this area.  Until then, all bachelors give way and continue to live in small groups waiting for their year.
